2025 Parent Information Letter

The following letter was sent home to families at Slauson feeder schools on December 20th, 2024.

Dear Future Slauson Parents and Guardians,

This school year is passing quickly and we have already started to plan for next year. Before you know it, your child will be entering 6th grade and starting their middle school experience. Leaving elementary school and moving to middle school can be both challenging and exciting for students and parents. At Slauson Middle School, we are committed to making this transition a positive experience for both you and your child. Below is our transition schedule and summary of upcoming activities for incoming 6th grade Golden Bears!

Transition events scheduled for our in-coming parents:

5th Grade Parent Orientation - February 27, 2025 at 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM (this orientation is for parents only): During the orientation, we will provide you with an overview of our middle school program and will answer any questions that you may have. At the orientation you will learn about the 6th grade experience, curriculum, classroom expectations, and co-curricular opportunities for students. The parent orientation program will provide you with important information about Slauson and will also demonstrate our school’s commitment to our middle school students and their families.

Transition events scheduled for our future Golden Bear students:

March 3rd - March 7th, 2025: Slauson Counselors will facilitate visits to 5th grade classes at feeder elementary schools. Students will learn about 6th grade course options, typical 6th grade schedules, and the Slauson school culture (lockers, lunch period, co-curriculars, advisory, etc.).

6th grade course selection sheets will be shared electronically with parents by elementary schools after your child’s classroom visit. Forms must be submitted to Slauson no later than April 1st.

Transition Day - Thursday, May 1, 2025: 5th graders from each feeder elementary, as well as approved SOC/IDT students, will visit Slauson for the student orientation program. Students will learn about the building layout, course offerings, the middle school experience, and engage with teachers and staff members.

Students will travel to Slauson via AAPS transportation from each feeder elementary school for an afternoon visit. Students will return to the elementary schools prior to the end of the elementary school day.

Only students who are currently assigned to attend Slauson via school attendance area or have been approved by the AAPS Student Accounting Office for IDT/SOC may attend this activity.

IDT/SOC approved students who do not currently attend a Slauson feeder school (Bach, Dicken, Eberwhite, Lawton, or Lakewood) may attend, but will be responsible for  transportation to and from the activity.

August Student/Parent Registration: Incoming 6th grade student registration will be in August 2025. Parents/guardians must complete the AAPS InfoSnap electronic pre-registration prior to having students attend in-person registration at Slauson Middle School. AAPS will send out the InfoSnap notification via email during the summer months. The following items will be provided at in-person registration to students who have completed InfoSnap: Quarter 1 schedules, locker assignments, and students will take yearbook pictures that will also be used for student I.D. cards. In addition, students will have the opportunity to sign-up for middle school athletics, clubs, and parents will be able to pay PTSO dues.

Class schedules, lockers, etc. will not be processed and prepared in advance of the in-person registration for students who have not completed the AAPS InfoSnap electronic registration before the August registration. Assistance in completing InfoSnap can be provided for families who need support, however schedules and other registration items may not be available immediately.

Picture retakes/make-up day will occur in October.

Should you have any questions about orientation or other transition events please feel free to call Slauson’s main office at 734-994-2008.

Sincerely,
